Hastings is an excellent place to live, but what about to visit? This is Hastings met a wonderful pair of Day Trippers (actually weekenders) from New Zealand!
Fresh off the plane, with their sights set on conquering the UK Fashion scene, we met the twins (Elza & Nellie) last Sunday, enthralled by the rhythmic spectacle of the Drum Off!
This Is Hastings caught up with the girls, sat up at The Castle on Bank Holiday Monday. Unlike This Is Hastings, Elza and Nellie remained stoic – braving the wind and the rain for the entirety of the celebrations! Although a tad soggy, it was still an enjoyable and interesting experience:
Apparently while lying on the ground Elza got an unfortunate eyeful of an impulsive pagan that just “had to get naked!” After reliving that traumatic ordeal, she regaled us with more pleasant memories:
“I loved the dancers from Berlin – really beautiful, all dressed in orange, it’s just so nuts – the people here just love to dress up and go crazy, even in the rain!”
For Nellie, her favourite part was “ripping Jack a new one” – getting amongst the “wild crowd” and gathering the good luck leaves!
Other Hastings highlights included the architecture, cobbled streets, cheap whiskey and friendly locals (no doubt because of this apparent cheap whiskey)
“The town has so much personality – its a bit nuts … but awesome! Everyone seems to be creative here!”
Elza took great pleasure in describing how she ordered double plaice and chips (not quite knowing what she was letting herself in for) but still managed to eat the entire enormous portion! (A girl after Mr. Hastings’ heart)
While Nellie being a great dog lover was enchanted by Collared in Hastings Town Centre – apparently wanting to buy the entire shop’s contents, for her prize pooch Taco, back home.
In The Little Larder (St. Leonards) they found a little piece of their New Zealand homeland, with the fantastic food experience only tainted by Elza losing her sunglasses to the toilet.
This Is Hastings is incredibly pleased to have met the quirky and charming pair, and look forward to seeing much more of them, in the future!
