While This is Hastings was on a small Coffee Break at the Royal Standard this Sunday, we were intrigued to see a number of bearded “ladies” go by.
On closer inspection, it was in fact Ladies Wot Walk an annual cross-dressing march in aid of Hastings Bonfire Sociey. The posse of burly beauts began at The Bo-Peep pub in St Leonards, shaking their collection buckets all the way to the Stag Inn in the Old Town.
This Is Hastings caught up with the ranbunctious parade at their final destination, where we met a whole host of colourful characters. As well as a thematic pub quiz and raffle, they “ladies” and “gentlemen” were treated to some highly entertaining (and upredictable) opera-esque singing from Toby the Transvestite Tenor.
With this dainty dame launching “herself” across tables to the sounds of West Side Story, or greeting unsuspecting punters entering the door to some highly intimate performances at belt level!
An amazingly bizarre, but exceptionally fun experience for one and all, with almost £1000 raised for the bonfire society! This Is Hastings raises a glass, and tips a cap to those Ladies Wot Walked
