Let’s Eat Local – The Black Market

This Is Hastings has been rather quiet this weekend, partly because we’re preparing a load of fun stuff in the background, but also because we’ve had our mouths full!

The Black Market on George Street is a hidden treasure when it comes to tasty and affordable grub – so much so that we returned on multiple occasions, joined by multiple companions to give the menu a good old going over …

During the week, the lunch boasts an epic selection of pizzas and gourmet burgers for the grand total of … £6

(Only £6.95 for a similar selection of Saturday Lunch Specials / Sunday diners should definitely try the roast!)

The burgers, sat in a toasted sweet bun are accompanied by a bowl of chunky chips and a fresh side salad and the all the appropriate sauces or toppings you could wish for (if you’re lucky you might even get it served up on an impressive (although slightly hard to navigate) woodblock)

Although we sampled the lamb, beef, chicken and fish burgers – For Mr Hastings the spicy zing of the Mediterranean Lamb Burger won out, on numerous flavoursome occasions. While for Ms Hastings the classic homemade 100% Beef Burger with cheese and mushrooms took the top spot at the taste bud awards.

Honourable mentions should also go out to the succulent (almost naan bread like) pizza base, and the basil mayonnaise that came with the Open Chicken Sandwich.

With the friendly staff, comfy seating and good vibrations. Added to the sheer quality of eats – you almost feel guilty that you get so much change from a tenner …

This Is Hastings enjoys getting prime pick of the tables, therefore we are slightly reluctant to share this information with the world – as once word gets around, The Black Market‘s kitchen will undoubtedly receive the attention and credit it so thoroughly deserves …
