With the summer drawing in, there’s nothing like a lovely morning stroll down to Rock-a-nore to blow out the cobwebs. Once the dazzling view has filled your soul, you may wish to fill your belly. Luckily just a stones throw away is the Undercliffe House – Cafe Bistro (but please don’t actually throw a stone as you may hit an unsuspecting outdoor diner)
Somewhat hidden away (due to scaffolding in place, for a new gargantuan hotel / restaurant / penthouse in the works) the Undercliffe House is a vibrant nook, with an open-plan diner vibe. All the while accompanied by a reggae backing track (and if you’re lucky a bit of sing-a-long from certain members of staff)
The menu is vast, offering all sorts of burgers and fresh local catch (all to be properly sampled in the future). But This Is Hastings was all about breakfast on this occasion – opting for a home-made bubble and squeak, as well as a classic egg and bacon roll.
The bubble and squeak was beautifully presented on a large platter, and Mr. Hastings gratefully devoured the hearty fare – his only slight regret, not adding a bonus sausage to the breakfast club. As from prior experience the bangers go down a treat.
For Ms. Hastings it was substance over style. A fresh bun stocked with a couple of rashers of bacon and well balanced fried egg – no gooey yoke explosion on first bite (although this is partly credit to Ms Hastings being a seasoned pro at navigating such an issue)
The friendly atmosphere, tasty grub, excellent music and beach side location make the Undercliffe House a firm favourite for the coming summer months – just make sure you wait half an hour before swimming.
