Let’s Eat Local – Walkers

This Is Hastings narrowly avoided a drenching this afternoon, by ducking into Walkers for a spot of lunch.

Although the Walkers’ menu boasted some appetising prospects, This Is Hastings wasn’t feeling particularly adventurous (must have been the weather), thus opting for both the beef and the chicken burger.

Both home-made burgers were topped with cheese and bacon (with chicken) or red onion marmalade (with beef), sandwiched between a crunchy french bread bun, and served up with a sizable portion of chips and side salad. Add a big old dish of “proper mayo” on the side and not even the rain outside could dampen spirits.

The french loaf bun, although adding a lovely crunchy texture was quite hard to navigate without its packed contents attempting a daring escape. This Is Hastings was forced to quell its primal handheld urges, and resort to knife and fork tactics – something we did with reluctance, as we feel a burger should be a hand to mouth experience (otherwise its a cooked bit of mince with a side of bread.)

The salad dressing suited Mr. Hastings‘ sweet tooth greatly, although Ms. Hastings‘ delicate palette struggled with the concept.

All in all a very tasty bite, served up in the blink of an eye – perfect for lunching on the run (spare napkin may be required)
