Dog Blog – Eric

Published on May 31, 2012 in Dog Blog

STATISTICS

Name:
Eric

Age:
2 ½ years

Breed:
Old Town Terrier

General Info:
Eric is quite the deceptive dog – not only is Eric a she, but her small stature and boundless energy is often mistaken for that of a puppy.

Sat with her owner Matt Tassell-Dawson taking pride of place on one of the Royal Standard’s benches, Eric held still just long enough for This Is Hastings to get a snap.

Somewhat prone to misfortune, Eric has managed to break her leg and fall through an icy pond.

But she remains chipper, chasing squirrels around Alexandra Park on a daily basis.

This Is Hastings met a participant of the classes who has so far managed to create a bag, a make up bag and is now working on a lovely little dress for her daughter, today smocking – tomorrow full ball gowns….

“I think these classes are brilliant, gives you the confidence to try new things”

With tea and biscuits and helpful advice flowing it, was impossible for Ms Hastings to leave – sneakily picking up  tips on how to cut patterns and thread a sewing machine!

Let’s Eat Local – Fortes Pizzeria

Published on May 30, 2012 in Food & Drink, Reviews

While strolling by St Leonards Warrior Square, This Is Hastings decided to nip into Fortes Pizzaria for an early evening eat.

On entering, you can always expect a warm and friendly welcome from the Fortes family.

Some authentic Italian pizza was the obvious choice for the evening, freshly prepared in no time at all and jam-packed with flavoursome ingredients.

Mr. Hastings committed a mild pizza crime, opting for Marinara with cheese – usually Italians don’t mix anchovies and cheese, while Ms. Hastings chose the Amalfitana (or Hawaiian to the rest of us). The hearty pizzas left little room for anything else.

The top quality pizzas consumed, apparently very good coffee and the prospect of a Nutella Pizza for dessert are reasons enough for a swift, if not immediate return to Fortes!

Coffee Break – Bullet

Published on May 29, 2012 in Food & Drink, Reviews

Basking in the sunshine for any amount of time can be truly exhausting, and as the evening draws in and the temperature cools somewhat, like This Is Hastings you may be in need of a caffeine boost.

Grabbing a delightfully sunny spot outside Bullet Coffee House, synapses were rejuvenated by a cappuccino injection.

Whether its a quick shot or an extended stay Bullet is an excellent spot to relax – watch the tide roll in, or enjoy the eclectic sounds of passing car stereos circling the America Grounds.

Let’s Eat Local – Beach BBQ

Published on May 28, 2012 in Food & Drink, Tourism

With the Sunday sun beating down, This Is Hastings thought better of a Sunday Roast feast, and instead decided to hit the beach – But not before paying a quick visit to Peter’s Eastern Fish Shop!

With an array of fishies for our dishies, This Is Hastings opted for some locally caught mackerel, as well as a few cheeky sardines! Gutted, bagged and tagged on sight, and armed with a disposable barbeque, Rock-a-Nore beach was the destination for our fishy feast!

Popped inside a pillowy-soft roll from Judges Bakery, the barbequed fresh fish (topped with a squeeze of lemon) was the ultimate summer treat!

With a day of tasty food, basking in the sun with friends, all topped off with a refreshing dip in the sea, This Is Hastings was quickly reminded of exactly why we love this town so much.

Sweet Ride – APN Longboards

Summer has officially arrived, and This Is Hastings likes to travel in style.

The very nice folks at APN (A Public Nuisance) kindly lent us a couple of their longboards to take for a spin down the seafront.

Based in Hastings and London APN have launched a new line of boards created from reconditioned vintage 1950’s water-skis.

Created in the same way as some of the first skateboards (rollerskates attached to waterskis) The boards are one of two (skis) meaning each board is pretty much unique!

This Is Hastings invited our good friend Holly to help us put the boards through their paces …
